June Reading Recommendations

Hello All!

The last couple of months have been something of a whirlwind for me. While I haven’t had much opportunity to write as much as I would have liked, I’ve certainly tried to keep up with my reading. So here are some interesting titles that I have enjoyed recently. I hope you enjoy them too!

“Kiss Marry Kill” (The Dr Maxwell Thornton Mysteries Book 6) By S.C. Wynne

From The Blurb:

River Martin has begun to reveal his true motives for being in Rainy Dale, and, shocker, it’s not good news for Maxwell.

If Maxwell is going to go to war with River, he’ll need people on his side. In his quest to be more of a people person, he’s roped into attending the wedding of one of his young patients, Janelle Raiden.

The bride is stunning in white silk tulle. The groom is appropriately doting. The cake is pure buttercream decadence. Everything about the wedding seems so very, very perfect.

Until the groom’s dead ex-wife makes an appearance.

My Thoughts:

If you haven’t stumbled upon this series yet, drop everything and grab Book One (Strange Medicine) right now! If you love old school murder mysteries, cozy mysteries, small town characters and a bit of steam here and there, this is the book series for you.

The latest instalment features a fascinating mystery that throws twists and surprises at you that will keep you guessing right up until the end. Each book is better than the last, and S.C. Wynne is quickly becoming my favourite mystery writer. Highly recommended.

My Rating: 5 out of 5 stars.

“How To Summon A Boyfriend” by Aja Foxx

From The Blurb:

Herby
I needed a boyfriend to keep my father from marrying me off to a man handpicked by him. What better way to get one than to summon a demon? When I found a book of shadows in my grandfather’s attic, I knew I’d found the answer, but something went wrong. Instead of summoning a demon, I ended up in hell. What was I supposed to do now?

Hades
Judging souls was boring. Ruling the underworld was boring. Everything was boring. I needed something to happen to keep me from going insane. I never imagined the fates would answer my unspoken prayer by dropping a human into the underworld, and I’d certainly never met a human quite like Herby. He confused me, amused me, and drove me crazy. Why else would I agree to be his boyfriend?

My Thoughts:

Sweet, funny and romantic, this book hooked me from the first chapter. I liked the mix of classic supernatural tropes and ancient Greek mythology. Lighthearted and fluffy, but also serious and engaging. Herbie was a lovely character who just made me smile, and Hades was not at all what I expected. A great weekend reader.

My Rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars.

“Hired: Hadley” (Foster Brothers Book 2) by Nora Phoenix

From The Blurb:

Sebastian LeClerc is richer than Midas. He’s also a grumpy a**hole, a playboy, and the world’s worst boss. At least, according to Hadley, who was crazy enough to take the job as Sebastian’s PA. Big mistake. Huge.

Sebastian may look like Richard Gere, but he’s nowhere near that charming. Everyone cowers and seeks cover when he’s in the room. Hadley can’t believe Sebastian’s really that bad and that there has to be a reason for his bad attitude, but he seems to be the only one.

Except Sebastian does seem to appreciate Hadley, calling him his sunshine. And when something nice comes out of his mouth on occasion, Hadley’s heart is all aflutter. Oh no. It can’t be. Has Hadley fallen for his boss?

My Thoughts:

I love the old boss/employee trope, so I grabbed this one despite having not read any of the other books in this series. But it didn’t end up being an issue, since this book reads as a standalone title nicely.

A lovely, slow burn romance with a touch of snark. The two main characters are complicated, flawed and ultimately very believable. I loved how these two men, both with their own very complex issues, were able to find each other and discover something neither one of them wanted to admit they wanted more than anything.

I look forward to checking out the rest of this series.

My Rating: 4 out of 5 stars.

Well, that’s all from me for the moment. I hope you have a wonderful month filled with fine food, great friends and wonderful books to read.

Take care and stay safe.

Lots of Love
